Bedford introduced the RL truck in the 1950s, and it remained in production until the early 1970s. Like many other Bedford vehicles, it served primarily as the British Army's main medium-duty truck during that period. It was based on the civilian Bedford S and was also used as a non-military. The truck had a split windshield and the distinctive Bedford radiator grille, four-wheel drive and larger wheels for optimum ground clearance.
Bomb disposal school Broadbridge Heath was a bomb disposal school and headquarters for the Royal Engineers in West Sussex. It trained bomb disposal personnel from all branches of the British armed forces and from other countries. It also conducted research on bomb disposal techniques.
It was an important center for the training of bomb disposal personnel during the Cold War and played a vital role in ensuring that British forces were prepared for the threat of unexploded bombs and other explosives.
The truck is registered as 58 BS 56 and the front side wing bears the crown and lion insignia of the Bomb Disposal School, while a plate with the initials BDS is on the driver's side wing.
